PASSIONATE ABOUT RUNNING AND THE BENEFITS OF IMPROVING TECHNIQUE
About me
I am passionate about encouraging and supporting people to change the way they think about their running technique and movement so that they can become the runner they aspire to be.
And when advising on running plans, I totally believe in designing sessions around the way people live their lives, so that all training remains achievable and fun.
MY RUNNING EXPERIENCE
I am an ex 800m track runner and international orienteer and have a BSc honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science (Coaching).
I am a UK Athletics Endurance and Fell and Hill running coach and have previously qualified as a British Orienteering coach. I have worked for British Orienteering as their Talent and Performance Manager which involved developing British Orienteering’s world class programme for the athletes, organising and delivering training camps and competitions, overseeing the selection of athletes, and support the athletes with their competitive performances, by using motivational techniques and helping them to analyse how to improve.
The Team
From the early days in 2022, the amount of coaching being delivered by RyR has grown steadily and so has the size and breadth of the team available to support our athletes.
In 2025 Sarah was joined on the coaching side of the business by Dave. From the outset, Dave has been instrumental in both the establishment and ongoing management of Renew Your Running.
With over 43 years of running experience, having participated in approximately 2,000 races and logged more than 125,000 miles across terrains ranging from tracks to mountains, coupled with over 14 years of involvement in managing British Orienteering’s Performance Programme, Dave has consistently provided valuable insights and background support.
Building on this extensive background, in 2025 he formalised his expertise and qualified as a UESCA certified Ultra-Running Coach.
Dave is a highly experienced athlete with an extensive background in distance running, including marathons and ultra-distance events since his marathon debut in 1982 and participation in his first multi-day mountain marathon in 1984. Over the past decade, he has specialised in ultra trail and mountain races, consistently securing strong overall results and achieving several age category victories. Notable achievements include finishing in the top 30 overall at the Lakeland 100 at age 57, placing in the top 10 of his age category at the UTMB TDS, and most recently, as a V60, earning a top 10 overall result at the Dales Traverse. Additionally, Dave has contributed to numerous support teams for significant mountain challenges such as the Bob Graham, Paddy Buckley, and Wainwrights rounds, playing roles in several record-breaking attempts.
Dave will be collaborating with Sarah to deliver comprehensive support to Renew Your Running’s athletes as they prepare for upcoming challenges, especially those involving long-distance events.
In addition, to Dave and Sarah RyR’s work is supported by a number of associate experts in fields such as Physiotherapy, Physiology, Nutrition and Sports Massage and in specialist coaching areas, such as orienteering, by additional coaches eg. Rachel and Becca who have helped deliver three years of the Couch to Green introduction to orienteering programme for Cleveland Orienteering Klubb
Our friends at Beta Outdoor Sports, the UK distributor of brands such as Naak, Instinct, Moonlight, Kahtoola, Ultimate Direction, Injinji and Mount to Coast, also deserve a big thank-you for the help they’ve provided.
